ARLINGTON - Texas legends who took a gamble on success are the focus of the autumn meetings of the Friends of The University of Texas at Arlington Library.
One of those legends and three authors are featured speakers at the meetings at 7:30 p.m. in the sixth floor parlor of the Central Library, 702 Planetarium Place.
Ebby Halliday, who built a real estate empire in North Texas, and Michael Poss will discuss her life and his book "Ebby Halliday: The First Lady of Real Estate" on Sept. 11.
Local gangsters are the topic covered by Jeff Guinn, Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnist, on Oct. 23. His upcoming book is "Go Down Together: The True Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde."
Author Mike Cochran will discuss his book "The Godfather of Poker: The Doyle Brunson Story" at the Nov. 13 meeting.
Each author will sell and sign their books at a reception after the meeting.
Traditional musical holiday is part of the Dec. 4 meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the sixth floor atrium of the Central Library. The Upscale Quartet, a local barbershop quartet, will perform.
