Lora Malone named new UT Arlington Alumni Association executive director
ARLINGTON - The University of Texas at Arlington has named Lora J. Malone, vice president and chief programs officer for the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association, as executive director of the UT Arlington Alumni Association. Malone's first day will be June 1.
Malone moves to Texas after nearly a decade with the Oklahoma State alumni organization and 19 years overall in alumni relations, development, public affairs and marketing. She joined OSU in 1991 and previously served as coordinator of undergraduate admissions in addition to other positions.
As executive director of UT Arlington's alumni association, Malone will manage strategic planning and operations for the organization and will direct efforts to increase participation among the University's 148,000 alumni.
"We're thrilled to add an executive director of Lora's caliber to our ranks and look forward to seeing her take the UT Arlington Alumni Association to new levels of programming and involvement," University President James D. Spaniolo said. "Alumni participation is a hallmark of a top-flight University, and we look forward to working closely with Lora to help cultivate those critical relationships."
Malone earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts with a concentration in communications and public relations from Central State University in Edmond, Okla. She holds a master's of education degree with an emphasis in higher education and community service from the University of Central Oklahoma, also in Edmond.
Malone brings significant, senior leadership experience at a Big 12 university and a high energy level that will benefit UT Arlington in many ways, said Emily Hoad, president of the UT Arlington Alumni Association's board of directors.
Hoad noted innovative programs Malone launched to cultivate lifelong relationships with alumni, from gift books sent to alumni with new children to a network of alumni volunteers who helped recruit top high school students across the country.
"We have a strong foundation with our alumni association. And as the University grows by leaps and bounds, we want to be a partner in that process," Hoad said. "We have a real potential, particularly with our recent graduates, to significantly increase engagement and University support."
Malone said she looks forward to putting her expertise to work on the Texas campus and beyond.
"Much of the strength of a University comes down to its alumni and their affinity for the institution," she said. "The UT Arlington campus has such a life and breadth of energy, and it has a strong commitment to faculty and staff. I'm excited to get to capitalize on that."
Malone succeeds former executive director Christina Million, who was named assistant vice president of the Georgia State University Alumni Association in January.
UT Arlington is located in the heart of North Texas and is among the state's fastest-growing, comprehensive institutions of higher education. Enrollment now tops 28,800, with more than 4,300 students living on campus.
World class faculty members are propelling UT Arlington on its mission of becoming a nationally recognized research University. A 234,000-square-foot Engineering Research Building and 6,500-seat Special Events Center are changing the physical face of the campus in remarkable ways.
