ARLINGTON - Bill Nye, The Science Guy, is the final speaker in the
2010-11 Maverick Speakers Series.
Bill Nye, The Science Guy
The science ambassador and Emmy Award-winning television personality
will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, in Texas Hall, 701 W. Nedderman
The events are free and open to the public. Tickets are required but are sold out. If you would like to attend this lecture but did not reserve a ticket, non-ticketed patrons will be seated as space permits.
This is the third season of the Maverick Speakers Series.
The speakers have been provocative and entertaining in each of those seasons.
New York Times columnist and author Thomas Friedman, Astronaut Sally Ride and

The television show host has worked to foster an
understanding about science among viewers. His show, “Bill Nye, The Science Guy,”
has won seven national Emmy Awards for writing, performing and producing. Nye
also hosts “The 100 Greatest Discoveries” on the Science Channel and “The Eyes
of Nye” on PBS stations.
Nye and his shows have helped people understand and
appreciate the science that makes the world work. Making science entertaining
and accessible is something he's been doing most of his life.
Nye’s fascination of how things work led him to Cornell
University and a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation, he worked
as an engineer at Boeing. It was in Seattle that Nye began to combine his love
of science with his flair for comedy, when he won the Steve Martin look-alike
contest and developed dual careers as an engineer by day and a stand-up comic
Nye's latest project is hosting a show on Planet Green
called “Stuff Happens” about environmentally responsible choices that consumers
can make as they go about their day and their shopping.
Nye is currently the executive director of The Planetary
Society, the world's large space interest organization.
