Compostable lunches, e-waste recycling and a popular plant giveaway are among the activities planned for UT Arlington’s Earth Day Celebration at 11 a.m. Wednesday on the University Center Mall.

The Office of Sustainability hosts the celebration. The office has helped launch several initiatives in recent years – including a bike rental program, low-cost car sharing and water bottle filling stations. The UT Arlington campus has also undergone millions of dollars in energy-efficiency upgrades in recent years and installed electric car charging stations.

“Earth Day is a great time to see students’ enthusiasm for incorporating more sustainable options into their lives,” said Meghna Tare, director of the Office of Sustainability. “At UT Arlington, we are demonstrating everyday that embracing sustainability can be cost-effective while benefiting the community.”
