Associate dean gains national attention as part of defibrillation research team
A UT Arlington associate nursing dean is co-author of a new, nationally-noted paper that raises questions about the effectiveness of in-hospital use of automated external defibrillators, or AEDs. The findings from the research team that included UT Arlington professor Beth Mancini and other researchers say that while AEDs improve survival for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, similar use in a hospital setting does not lead to an improved rate of survival. The work is published in the Nov. 17, 2010 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, and is available online.

UTeach Arlington on its way to producing more secondary math and science teachers
UTeach Arlington, which teams faculty from the College of Science and the College of Education and Health Professions, is patterned after the UTeach program at The University of Texas at Austin. Since 1997, that program has shown success in graduating more math and science teachers by recruiting students within those majors during their freshman and sophomore years. For those who have an interest in becoming certified to teach, UTeach provides education-related courses and classroom experience and mentoring earlier than in past programs.
