    A UTA electrical engineering professor was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for his work in an area called fuzzy logic, which is used to create efficient computing methods that are tolerant of imprecise inputs. Qilian Liang, the new IEEE Fellow, also is an expert in radar and wireless sensor networks, wireless communications, compressive sensing and smart grids.

    A UTA civil engineering researcher will use a suite of new algorithms to improve the National Weather Service's rainfall measurement tools. The research will in turn provide better forecasting for runoff, creeks and streams, and reservoirs. The project is being funded through a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration grant.

    An assistant professor of Computer Science and Engineering is the fourth UTA professor to receive a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development, or CAREER, grant. Junzhou Huang will employ multiple methods to access and analyze very large, complex patient data. This research could ultimately allow scientists and doctors to make better clinical predictions and work toward cures for diseases.
