Tarrant County cyber attack

The Tarrant County Appraisal District was hit with a ransomware attack, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Jingguo Wang, a professor of information systems and operations management in the College of Business, spoke with the Star-Telegram about why these sorts of attacks should be of concern to property owners.

Military autopsy

NBC News reports that the Department of Defense’s medical examiner did not have consistent policies for organ retention and disposition. Eli Shupe, assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy and Humanities, said there were two distinct ethical failures in how the Department of Defense dealt with autopsies.

Solar eclipse astronomy

The Dallas Morning News posted a video story featuring Evan Spencer, public services librarian and archivist in the UTA Library Department of Special Collections and Archives, and Kimberly Breuer, associate professor of instruction in the Department of History, talking about the way ancient civilizations understood and viewed eclipses.

Fox 61, a Connecticut station, aired WFAA’s segment on the same story from Breuer and Spencer in the UTA Library. WFAA also reaired the segment on their morning show.

Real Estate

The Fort Worth Report covered the annual real estate symposium hosted by the College of Business. This year’s event was titled “DFW Real Estate—The Next Decade.” Sriram Villupuram, associate professor in the Department of Finance and Real Estate, said there needs to be more housing built at an affordable price to keep the Metroplex a competitive place for people to live.
