Graduate Teaching Assistants
The School of Nursing provides paid
teaching and research assistantship appointment opportunities to graduate
students in nursing who are in good standing in the University and
registered as a full-time or part-time student.
- Graduate students who have
selected teaching as their functional area are encouraged to
participate as teaching assistants to facilitate their future
employment in schools of nursing.
- Non-resident students approved
to be a GTA or GRA prior to registration are eligible for
resident tuition and fees. (for additional information, see
Graduate Catalog).
The undergraduate program is
currently seeking graduate teaching assistants for clinical and
non-clinical appointments for Fall 2007. Available positions offer
opportunities for teaching assistants to participate in grading
papers, conducting skills labs, direct student contact in clinicals,
and other areas.
Eligibility
A student must have an unconditional admission status to be
eligible to hold a graduate assistantship. A student whose native
language is not English must submit an acceptable score on the Test
of Spoken English for teaching and research assistant applicants
before appointment can be processed.
Tuition Rates
Graduate teaching assistants employed at least 20 hours per week
(full time) in positions related to their degree programs are
entitled to Texas resident tuition rates. Those working less than
full time are not eligible for this benefit.
Course Load
Graduate assistants may register for and complete no more than
12 semester hours and no fewer than 9 semester hours per semester.
Some exceptions may apply with prior approval by the Graduate Dean.
