Gerontological Nurse Practitioner
(GNP) |
The Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Program prepares
advanced practice nurses as primary care providers to manage the health of elders and
their families in a changing health care system. Emphasis is on health promotion and the
management of minor acute illnesses and chronic complex health needs of older adults (or
elders) to maximize their functional level and independence. The GNP provides leadership and promotes research to maximize the health
care services for elders and their families. Graduates are prepared to be recognized as
advanced practice nurses by the Board of Nurse Examiners and to take the National
Certification Exam as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses
Credentialing Center.
