PhD MENTORING PROGRAM
The mentoring program for PhD students
was implemented in the fall of 2003 to support the scholarly endeavors
of the PhD students. Resources encompass many areas which are not
limited to classroom and research support, but are much more
far-reaching. This website will serve as a convenient repository for
informational links and tools for the PhD students' use.
In
2006, Mary Lou Bond, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, FAAN, accepted the responsibility of
coordinating the program. At that time, the program was expanded to
include initiatives that were added under a grant from the Health
Resources Services Administration (HRSA). Jennifer Gray, PhD, RN
continues as the principal investigator of the grant and as Associate
Dean of the PhD in Nursing program.
The mentoring program is designed to provide
students with opportunities to network, share ideas and information, and
to receive support as they progress through the PhD program. Activities
are held that provide opportunities to collaborate with other students,
mentor(s) and faculty on ideas and ways to address challenges and issues
faced throughout their academic career.
At the beginning of doctoral studies, students are
asked to complete a brief survey that describes individual academic
interest and the kinds of professional assistance needed from a mentor.
Based on that information, students are offered the opportunity to link
with a faculty member and/or external professional resource persons
whose interests and expertise matches their area of focus. Additionally,
the student is also encouraged to identify individual resource persons
who may assist him/her in a mentoring relationship.
Our
communication with students and mentors is on-going in our effort to
provide a positive academic experience. For more information on the PhD
in Nursing Mentoring Program, or if you would like to offer any
