The purpose of this course
is to further develop an awareness, understanding and
appreciation of the cultural factors that underlie a
person's way of living. This course will increase the
practitioner's ability to make in-depth assessments of the
cultural influences upon the individual's health care status
and will develop the ability to deliver culturally
sensitive, safe and effective care. Through the study of one
specific cultural group, the Mexican culture. students will
gain knowledge, skills and principles that will enable them
to generalize to other cultural groups. |

overview of the nursing care of the terminally ill patient
and family. Explores the impact of personal values and
beliefs about death on nursing care, the physiology of end
stage disease processes, clinical approaches to pain and
symptom management, societal issues and trends in end of
life care and models of care delivery. Prerequisite: BSN
students must complete all required Junior II courses, or
Registered Nurse students. |

principles related to human variation in health and disease.
Students will review and discuss the structure and function
of DNA, gene regulation, and literature on selected single
gene and complex disorders. The clinical application of the
family history and pedigree will be demonstrated, and the
potential of selected genetic technologies for nursing
research will be explored. Clinical application of moral,
ethical and legal issues will be integrated throughout the
