My
joy in nursing is working with adolescents who are struggling with life
decisions and emotional issues. My work originally began in an inner city
gang school in Houston after I graduated from my Masters program. I have
continued my interest and support of adolescents in other school based
clinics, in pediatric cardiology, and in private practice. Working
predominately with the adolescents in the Hispanic population, I have
learned to speak some medical Spanish and I have also studied Hispanic folk
medicine to better understand their concept of health and herbal use. I am
planning to pursue my research interests in adolescence within the next two
years. Currently, I work with undergraduate nursing students in the
pediatric setting and am very involved with teaching the psychosocial
assessment of adolescents. I enjoy yoga, mediation, working out, gardening,
and foremost seeing my three adolescents grow up and discover the world.
