1.
Before appealing
a grade to the Dean of the School of
Nursing, students must have attempted to resolve
the issue/complaint
with:
·
the
Instructor who issued the grade,
·
the
Director of the BSN Program (or RN to BSN
Program)
·
the
Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program.
2.
Students
may set up an appointment with the SON Associate Dean for
the Undergraduate Program to review the grievance procedures. This is
not an interview to review the details of your grievance.
3.
In the event a student desires
to pursue a grievance for appealing a grade, the
required forms
are available in the School of Nursing dean’s office
4.
Complete both the front and
back of the Student Academic Grievance Form for Appeal of the Grade
(received from the program director) using additional sheets of paper if
necessary. Return the completed form to the Office of the Dean of the
School of Nursing. The grievance will be reviewed on the basis of the
paper work
submitted,
i.e. this form and any supporting materials.
5.
The SON Dean and the Associate
Dean will appoint a committee of the school's faculty to review
the appeal. The committee will review
the
appeal and make recommendations to the Dean. If
the
appeal requires further review, the Dean will ask the appropriate
faculty involved, directors or administrators to comment on
the
appeal.
6.
Following review, the Dean
will inform the student of the decision in writing. The decision will be
mailed to the address entered
on the Student Academic Grievance Form. The Dean will inform the Provost
of the decision.
7.
Students may elect
to pursue an appeal. If denied by the School of Nursing, you have the
right to request a review by the Provost.
