Kaiser-Permanente Health Promotion Lecture: Preventing the Spiral of Frailty
ARLINGTON: Frailty – is it a disease? What are the characteristics? How do we prevent it? This year the University of Texas at Arlington School of Nursing Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Program invites the community to attend the health promotion lecture by Dr. Sara Espinoza from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio who will talk about interventions that may be effective when caring for frail elderly persons. She will define the characteristics of frailty and how it may look different in various ethnic groups. “Preventing the Spiral of Frailty” will be presented March 31 at 4:00 p.m. at the Guadalupe Room at the EH Hereford University Center on the UT Arlington Campus. A reception will follow in the Academy Room of the Carlisle Suite at 5:30. The March 31st lecture is sponsored by Kaiser-Permanente through an endowment and is presented at no cost to the public. Dr. Espinoza completed her undergraduate work at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, her medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia and completed her internship and residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. She is a staff physician at the Geriatric Evaluation and Management Clinic at Audie L. Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies at UT Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. She has numerous presentations and publications on geriatric research and frailty. |
