Professor Beth Mancini Selected as Fellow of the American Heart Association
Mary E. (Beth) Mancini, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been selected to be among the inaugural fellows of the American Heart Association (AHA) in the area of Quality of Care and Outcomes Research. Fellowship in the American Heart Association (FAHA) is a means to recognize and award scientific contributions to the field and volunteer service within the association. Dr. Mancini was selected for her outstanding contributions and involvement in the AHA and will be entitled to use the designation of Fellow of the AHA/ASA (FAHA) to reflect her professional stature and record of valuable service to the AHA and the Council. Beth Mancini is Professor, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Nursing Programs, and the Baylor Professor for Healthcare Research at The University of Texas at Arlington. Prior to moving to an academic role in 2004, Dr. Mancini was Senior Vice President for Nursing Administration and Chief Nursing Officer at Parkland Health & Hospital System in Dallas Texas, a position she held for 18 years. Dr. Mancini’s multidisciplinary work with the American Heart Association is through the Interdisciplinary Working Group on Quality of Care and Outcomes Research (QCOR), one of the American Heart Association’s 16 Scientific Councils. QCOR provides a forum for a multidisciplinary group of volunteers committed to making a substantial contribution to reducing the burden of heart disease and stroke by improving healthcare quality and patient outcomes, and serves as a resource to the AHA and the country on issues pertaining to performance measures, quality of care, patient safety and outcomes research. UT Arlington’s School of Nursing is one of the 20 largest schools of nursing in the United States. With more than 1,200 students and 110 faculty members, it is committed to educating nurses who effectively and quickly integrate into the health care environment and are life-long learners and leaders. Currently the masters program in nursing offers MSN and Post MSN Certificate Nurse Practitioner (NP) Programs in the areas of Acute and Primary Care Pediatrics, Neonatal, Acute and Primary Care Adult, Emergency, Family, Gerontology and Psychiatric-Mental Health, Nursing Education, and Nursing Administration. A Masters of Nursing Education program that prepares nurses to practice as nurse educators in schools of nursing and health care delivery systems started Fall 2008. The Nursing Administration program offers an MSN, Dual MSN/HCAD and MSN/MBA, and a joint MSN/MPH (with the University of North Texas). The PhD program focuses on diverse and vulnerable populations in the preparation of nursing faculty and nurse scientists . A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) which began fall 2009, builds on the current nurse practitioner programs in the masters program and develops extended direct patient care management knowledge and expertise for nurse practitioners. The Smart Hospital™, is a 13,000 Sq. Ft., 23 bed teaching/learning /research center that provides students, health care providers and industry partners opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skill with hands-on experience and a research setting.
