PhD in Nursing Student Receives Research Award While in Jamaica
Jakki Opollo, a PhD student in The University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Nursing, was awarded the 2010 Stephen D. Latte Award for Research Excellence during the 2010 International Nurse Researchers Internship in Jamaica. The internship is a project of the Global Health Research Initiative, a Canadian agency that aims to improve and strengthen health systems in low to middle-income countries.
Opollo is a nursing supervisor in the progressive care unit at Medical City Dallas Hospital. She holds a Masters in Nursing Administration from UT Arlington and a Masters in Public Health Policy and Management from the University of North Texas Health Science Center.
Opollo's long term career goal is to work for the World Health Organization. Her research interest area is related to HIV/AIDS and its impact on the nursing workforce in Sub-Saharan Africa.
