Pickard Hall was built in 1982 and houses the School of
Nursing and Mathematics
Myrna
R. Pickard was the founding
dean of The University of Texas System School of Nursing in Fort
Worth in 1971. She helped provide a smooth transition when the
school became part of UTA in 1976. As dean of the UTA School of
Nursing, Dr. Pickard spearheaded the development of innovative
programs in distance education, an accelerated BSN program for
RNs, a nurse practitioner program that was among the first in the
nation, and a strong rural health continuing education program (RHOP).
After stepping down as dean in 1995 she was named director of the
Rural Health Outreach Program. She was the first holder of the
George W. and Hazel M. Jay Professorship in Nursing and has
received numerous honors from the University including:
1999 - UTA established the Myrna
R. Pickard Professorship in Nursing
2000 - Added to the UTA Walk of
Fame
