It’s a typical day in the Emergency Department at the Smart
Hospital and Health System. An infant was just brought in
having trouble breathing. The baby is breathing fast,
wheezing is heard, and the baby’s lips are blue. The nursing
students respond quickly. They ask the
upset mother pertinent history questions and help explain
what is going on. Oxygen and breathing treatments are quickly
started. After awhile, the baby’s breathing slows some, the wheezing decreases, and the
lips turn back to pink. The baby coos and the scenario is
finished. The nursing students leave the simulation lab better
prepared to interact and provide care to patients in the real
world.
