The School of Nursing is committed to providing an
innovative educational model that produces nurses who effectively and
quickly integrate into the health care environment and are life long
learners and leaders. With experience in the integration of
simulation into the overall curriculum of the undergraduate and graduate
programs, the Smart Hospital™ is a national leader in simulation-based
learning. There is sufficient data to indicate that simulation
enhanced clinical education improves patient safety in health care
settings and, within the Smart Hospital™ students become better prepared
to address patient safety needs by allowing them repeated exposure to
essential learning experiences. School of Nursing faculty and staff are
available to work with organizations to develop individualized
educational plans to meet specific assessment and training needs. We can
also provide use of the Smart Hospital™
facility for staff training for certifications,
etc. Hospitals within the Dallas-Fort Worth area and across the
state of Texas have already used it to orient new employees, transition
employees into new roles, train interdisciplinary care teams, and
prepare transport teams for recertification.
The Smart Hospital™ clinical and research
facility enhances effective and efficient learning experiences with its
wide array of resources, from high fidelity manikins and patient actors
to its MicroSim™ computerized case studies. The 23-bed
state-of–the-science facility is a Laerdal Center of Excellence in
Simulation, Hill-Rom National Demonstration Showcase and the Cardinal
Health Nursing Discovery Center.
