Reminder to F-1 and J-1 Students:

Immigration regulations require F-1 and J-1 students to be enrolled full time during Fall and Spring at UTA. Full time at UTA is 9 hours for Graduate Students and 12 hours for Undergraduate Students. The immigration regulations allow waivers of the full time enrollment requirement under certain limited circumstances. Such waivers may only be granted by the advisors in the Office of International Education before the end of the enrollment period (Census Day), or before the student drops a course. Census date for the Fall 2016 Semester is Monday, September 12.

Nepal Special Student Relief

In response to the April 25, 2015 earthquake, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has made some special allowances for F-1 students from Nepal. Essentially the changes are to work eligibility and requirements and to enrollment requirements. The following options may be available to our Nepalese students who were affected by the earthquake. We encourage you to come speak to an advisor if you have any questions regarding this special relief. It’s important to remember that OIE approval is required in each instance before you take advantage of any of these opportunities.
