Student & Scholar Service »»Transfer Out Procedure
If you would like to transfer FROM The University of Texas at Arlington TO another U.S. institution, then please read this handout carefully. Please note that this is not the correct form to read if you are interested in transferring to The University of Texas at Arlington. You should speak with the Admissions Office if you would like to become a UTA student.
When applying to different U.S. Universities/Colleges
Before you decide which U.S. university or college you would like
to transfer to, you will have to fill out an application for each university.
Part of your application may be a form called a “Transfer Clearance
Form”. This form is from the university or college you would
like to attend, and must be completed by a UTA international student
advisor. This form only takes into consideration your immigration status;
it does not have anything to do with the transfer of your academic
record. Here is the process:
-
When applying to another U.S. university or college, speak to the admissions office about the required documentation.
- If they give you a “Transfer Clearance Form”, bring this form to the UTA Office of International Education after completing the student’s section.
- Tell the front desk of the UTA Office of International Education that you want to transfer to another university or college. Also indicate if you want to come and pick up the form, or whether you would like it to be mailed or faxed directly to the institution to which you are applying.
- Please note that this request will take the Office of International Education three business days.
- You may submit multiple Transfer Clearance Forms; this does not mean you must attend the university or college for which we complete a form.
- Please note that if you are moving from one degree level to another at UTA or coming off of OPT to a new degree, we will need to complete a UTA transfer form to send to Admissions.
When you have decided which University/College to attend
Once you decide which university or college you definitely want to
attend, you will need to do the following:
- Bring your acceptance letter to the Office of International Education at UTA.
- Complete our SEVIS Release Form, and let us know which date you would like your record to be released in SEVIS to the new institution. Please note that it cannot be before the end of the semester. If you are on OPT, your OPT will be canceled on the release date. In order to continue working, you may want to request a release date closer to the expiration of your OPT (but not after the first day of class.
- All Bursar’s Holds must be cleared from your UTA account before you can be released.
- After your record has been released in SEVIS from UTA to the new university or college, contact the new school about your I-20. The new school will not be able to make an I-20 for you until after the release date.
- Speak to your new school about potential orientation sessions. Be sure and also share any possible travel plans with them so they may counsel you appropriately.
- If we determine that you are out of status, you will need to apply for reinstatement at your new school
