Study Abroad » Where to Begin

  • You must be in good standing with the University. You must also be enrolled for a minimum of 6 hours at UTA in the semester that you apply to study abroad (not just the semester you will be abroad).
  • Decide what kind of overseas experience you want. Your main choices include; study abroad, work abroad, internships and volunteer opportunities. Use this website to frame some general ideas about where you might want to go and what you would like to accomplish by going abroad. Helpful Hints for choosing the best Study Abroad Program for you.
  • Attend an information session to learn about what programs are available to you and how to decide which program best suits your personal and academic goals. Click here for information session dates, time and location.
  • After you have attended an information session, make an appointment with an advisor in the study abroad office (Swift Center, 817 272 1120 or email ) to discuss your plans and the best way to implement them. The OIE study abroad office is an indispensable resource to making your overseas educational plans a reality.
  • Talk to your academic advisor about your plans. To receive UTA resident credit, the courses you take abroad will have to have UTA equivalents. Your advisor and professors can help you pick the appropriate courses.
  • If you are currently using financial aid or want to use it for your study abroad experience, you need to talk to a counselor in the Financial Aid Office (252 Davis Hall) during the planning process so that you can take the necessary steps to receive your aid while you are abroad.
  • Begin making plans for the greatest experience of your life!
