Maurice Leatherbury

Description:
Maurice Leatherbury assumed the role of UTA’s Interim Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer in the fall of 2010, following over 15 years of experience as a manager of information technology at the University of North Texas, the last five of which were as the university’s Chief Information Officer. He has served as a tenure-track professor at UNT in the School of Library and Information Science and at the University of Missouri where he taught in the School of Library Science.
Prior to re-entering academia after earning his Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin in information science, Dr. Leatherbury spent 13 years as President of MetaMicro Library Systems Inc., a small software company where he developed applications for libraries on microcomputers. He has worked as a systems librarian at the Houston Academy of Medicine and as an acquisitions librarian at Stetson University. He spent four years as an Air Force munitions officer in Utah and Greece prior to earning his Ph.D.
Dr. Leatherbury served as Chair of the Lonestar Education and Research Network (LEARN) Board of Directors in 2010: LEARN is the statewide consortium of 38 institutions of higher education that provides over 3,000 miles of fiber optic networking to more than 400 institutions in Texas. He served for over four years as Chair of the North Texas Gigapop Management Council, the consortium of seven institutions in the Dallas/Ft. Worth region that provides Internet 2 and commodity internet services.
Dr. Leatherbury and his wife live in Flower Mound and their three children live in Denton, Austin, and San Antonio.
