Dennis Thompson

Position Title: Sr. Technical Director
Organizational Unit: Information Technology
Position Summary: With over 35 years of IT experience, Dennis is currently serving as Host/Participating Institution Liaison for the Arlington Regional Data Center.
Description: After the completion of two years in the military, Dennis went to work for Texas Instruments as a Computer Operator. After approximately one year he decided to earn a degree by attending school at Tarrant County Junior College now know as Tarrant County College. In October of 1972, Dennis applied and was hired as a computer operator at TCJC. During his 4 years at TCJC, Dennis earned a degree and was promoted to Programmer I. In 1976 Dennis became aware of an opening at UT Arlington for a Programmer II position and was hired in September of 1976. In 1980 Dennis earned a BS degree in Computer Science from East Texas State University; now know as Texas A&M Commerce. Over the next 32 years Dennis has served as a programmer II, Systems Analyst II and III, Manager of Systems Analysis Services, Assistant Director of Business Computing Services and Senior Technical Director of the Office of Information Technology.
Currently, Dennis serves as the liaison for all occupants of the Arlington Regional Data Center. His main responsibility is to interface with occupants utilizing the ARDC facility. See the ARDC newsletter for details regarding the Arlington Regional Data Center. Current occupants are: UTA, UTSW, UTMB, UT Austin, UTD, UT Tyler. Other universities wanting occupancy are on a waiting list.
Dennis grew up in Arlington, Texas. He is active in his church and currently serving as an elder at the Woodland West Church of Christ. He has two children both living in the DFW area. While serving in the military, Dennis was stationed in Okinawa and work for the 2nd logistical command with a Top Secret clearance as a Data Analyst Specialist. He also earned the Army commendation medal for outstanding performance during his 18 months in Okinawa. He has been to numerous technical schools during his tenure at UT Arlington, such as, REXX for TSO, CICS Performance and Tuning for MVS, RACF installation, Performance and Tuning, ACF/VTAM/NCP implementation Workshop, CICS/VS Programming. He has also completed CE courses in Oracle/SQL, Java Programming, and Project Management Overview. Dennis is very proud of his relationship with the University of Texas at Arlington and the opportunities afforded to him by the people whom he has developed lifelong relationships with at the University of Texas at Arlington.
