Standard Windows XP Configuration for Departmental Desktops
This document provides a links to software that is installed on each UT Arlington owned equipment used by a faculty or staff to accomplish routine administrative tasks such as email, web browsing, and word processing.
Software Installations:
- OS - Microsoft Windows XP SP2
- Anti-Virus - Symantec AntiVirus 10 > Run Symantec LiveUpdate.
- Run Customized Windows Updates (uncheck IE 7 download)
- Run Office Updates
- Patch Management - Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
- Office - Microsoft Office 2003
- PDF Reader -Adobe Reader 8
- Telnet/TN3270 client - Hummingbird HostExplorer 2007
Final Steps setting up a Desktop/Laptop:
Reboot the machine and Log into the local machine with the special administrator username and password.

Open Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View > select Show All... > minimize the window.

Right-click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced > choose Settings under User Profiles > click on your NetID > click Copy To > click Browse under Copy Profiles To > go to C:\Documents and Settings\Default User > OK > click Change under the Permitted to Use > type in everyone > click Check Names > OK > OK.

Reopen Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View > select Do Not Show Hidden Files and Folders.
- Add Machine to the UT Arlington Domain. These steps should complete the final configurations to allow users access to the machine.
