How to setup a new network printer
Questions we need answered first:
Is the printer setup where it needs to be?
Has it been connected to a network port?
What make/model of printer?
Will they need to print from CICS/Define?
Can the client print out a configuration page? If no, create call ticket
and assign to Desktop Support
If yes, have them get the configuration page and give you the following
info to start the process: Need the IP# assigned to the printer via DHCP.
EX: 129.107.xxx.xxx
And then assign call ticket will all info to Desktop Support
Steps performed by Desktop Support technician:
Verify inside of NetId that this IP# can be used. Always
choose a number to use under 100, if in doubt - check with network
services to make sure IP# given by printer is OK.
Send an e-mail to utanic@uta.edu in the subject line type "Make IP#
129.107.##.## static". Include in the body of the message the IP#
assigned, Enet/Mac address, print queue name, DNS Name which is the
same as print queue name of this printer. Copy/paste the e-mail sent into the
journal of call ticket. Someone from the network group will contact you when this has been completed.
Configure IP# on the printer using JetAdmin. Start JetAdmin | On the toolbar click on Device and select Find | Enter
the IP# that DHCP has set on this prtr and click on find | If it finds
it - then a box appears with lots of info - close it | On the main
screen of jetadmin utility you should locate the IP# you just found.
Locate it and the right-click on it select Modify | on the description
just enter the name of the print que (this is just for our information)
and click next | Change it manual and click ok all the way out and you
are done setting the IP# static on the printer.
Create an assignment for EOS > Windows. In the journal, you MUST
include IP#,
server name, and provide a name for the print queue (the print queue name should
be dept code_make/model of printer - Ex: OIT_HP2100N).
You MUST check the following location for the appropriate
printer driver at:
\\microsys\i386\Drivers\Printers\hp If the driver is not there,
create a new directory, go to HP site to download postscript driver
and unzip to the new directory you just created and include this
full path in the ticket journal so that Windows group knows where to
go and get the driver for the print queue.
If client needs to print from CICS/Define - Create an assignment to
EIS > Department Application
Once all this is complete. Notify the client. Confirm that all is
working and then you can close out the assignments.
