Using Dedicated FTP Software
Beginning 06/26/2007 you will not be able to connect to UTA servers from off-campus using FTP unless you establish a VPN connection first.
Before attempting to use the software, find out what server or host to which you need to connect:
-
sweeper.uta.edu, opal.uta.edu, talisman.uta.edu
These are departmental servers upon which faculty and staff personal (J: drive) or departmental (K: drive) folders are located. Look up your server here if you do not know what it is. -
students.uta.edu
This would be the server name needed to connect to student J: drives, web, and class folders using FTP. -
omega.uta.edu
This would be the server name if you are trying to view and transfer files to/from your Omega account. You will need to use SSH Client or Fugu for this connection. -
gamma.uta.edu
This would be the server name if you are trying to view and transfer files to/from your Gamma account. You will need to use SSH Client or Fugu for this connection.
There are different types of FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software that you can use to connect to your network drives. The links below provide basic usage information for some of them.

FTP with WS FTP (Windows OS)

FTP with HostExplorer 9.0 (Windows OS)
