Synchronize with Exchange Server
System requirements: Windows
Description:
These instructions provide information on how to synchronize the mobile device with the UTA Exchange Server. This document assumes outlook is disabled on the mobile device. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides minimum support for Windows Mobile 5.0 or greater devices. Devices with platforms less than Windows Mobile 5.0 are not supported. OIT does not guarantee these instructions will always work as advertised, and cannot be held responsible for devices we do not support. In our example, we used a PDA running Windows Mobile 5.1.
How to Use:
Synchronize device with the Exchange Server:
Windows XP
These actions must occur prior to synchronizing the mobile device with the Exchange Server:
- Establish partnership between the mobile device and the computer
- Ensure Outlook synchronization with the computer is disabled; if not, click here
- Establish wireless connection to the UTA Wireless Network
1. Turn on mobile device, connect device to computer via cable or USB connection [ensure wireless is enabled]. Active Sync launches automatically on the Desktop.
2. Select Tools > Add Server Source to open the Microsoft Exchange Settings Windows. Enter owa.uta.edu in the Server Address field and make sure SSL checkbox is checked. Enter UTA Net ID and password. Enter uta [lower-case]in the Domain field, ensure Save password is checked and click Ok.
3. Click Continue on the error message, "No Microsoft Exchange was detected at specified address.", and click OK on the Settings page.
4. Check the display on the mobile device. A warning message is present stating,"Exchange Server must enforce security policies on the mobile device"; select Ok. ActiveSync now saves and synchronizes the device with the UTA Exchange Server.
5. Close Active Sync and disconnect the mobile device from the computer.
Disconnect Device from Exchange Server:
1. Select Tools > Configure Server Source to open the Microsoft Exchange Settings Windows.
2. Click Delete Server and Yes on the warning message.
3. Once synchronization is complete, Exchange Server functions are disabled on the device.
Windows Vista: This option is currently under development and review. This section will be updated as information is obtained. Note: The Vista OS is not support by UTA OIT. Vista documentation and instructions are provided on this page for your convenience only.
