Synchronize with Outlook on the computer

Description:

These instructions provide information on how to synchronize the mobile device with Outlook on the computer. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides minimum support for Windows Mobile 5.0 or greater devices. No support is provided for devices with platforms less than Windows Mobile 5.0. OIT does not guarantee these instructions will always work as advertised, and cannot be held responsible for devices we do not support. In our example, we used a PDA running Windows Mobile 5.1.

How to Use:

Synchronize device with the Outlook:

These actions must occur prior to synchronizing the mobile device with Outlook:

  • Establish partnership between the mobile device and the computer
  • Exchange Server synchronization is not active on the device; if enabled, click here
  • Establish wireless connection to the UTA Wireless Network
  • An Outlook profile must exist on computer

1. Turn on mobile device, connect device to computer via cable or USB connection. Active Sync automatically opens on the Desktop.

2. Select Tools > Options, check all Outlook related functions [i.e. inbox, calendar, etc.], and select Ok.

3. Once synchronization is complete, the device is now capable of accessing the computer's Outlook data files.

Disable Outlook:

1. Select Tools > Options, un-check all Outlook related functions [i.e. inbox, calendar, etc.], and select Ok.

2. Once synchronization is complete, Outlook is disabled on the device.
