What is my NetID and password?
If you were admitted to UT Arlington for Summer 2006 or later, your NetID is your first, middle, last initial followed by the last four digits of your 10 digit UTA ID in the format fml####. If the Admissions Office did not include your middle name when entering your data, an 'x' will be used in place of your middle initial. Your NetID is permanent and will not change.
Your temporary randomized password is given to you by the Admission's Office in an e-mail (if an email address was provided by you) or via postal mail. Before you can use any network resources, you must activate the account and establish your own password at http://www.uta.edu/selfservice. If you have not received your temporary password through the Admissions Office, please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@uta.edu or (817) 272-2208.
Example:
Name: Mary Jane (was admitted for Summer 2006)
UTA ID: 1000-12-1234
NetID would be: mxj1234
Default password would be randomized and sent by the Admissions Office.

If the Admissions Office did not include your middle name when entering your data, an 'x' will be used in place of your middle initial. Your NetID is permanent and will not change.
Your default password is mmddyy## - the two-digit month, day, and year of your birthday followed by the first two digits of your SSN unless you were given a generic ID number (starting with 000). Before you can use any network resources, you must activate the account and establish your own password at http://www.uta.edu/selfservice.
Example:
Name: John Q. Public (was admitted prior to Summer 2006)
SSN: 123-33-4444
DOB: October 31st, 1984
NetID would be: jqp0938
Default password would be: 10318429
In some cases your NetID may not follow this convention if it has already been used by another student. This happens when the initials and the last four digits of the students' IDs match. If that is the case, the second NetID will be created with different digits from the ID.
What can I access using NetID?
NetID gives you access to many resources including but not limited to:

MyMav (registration, grades, payment, billing, advising, etc)

MavMail (Student e-mail system)

WebCT (online course delivery system)

Omega and Gamma (Linux)

Many departmental websites, for example SOAR SI, Accounting assignments, transcript order, etc
I can't remember my NetID password. What can I do?
There are 2 ways you can change your password:

If you have previously setup account management questions, you can use NetID Self Service page to change your forgotten password.

If you have not setup account management questions or you forgot your answers to the security questions, you will need to contact the Help Desk to change your password. Help Desk is required to see a photo ID, so you will need to either come in person or send us your photo ID by fax (817-272-2063) or e-mail (helpdesk@uta.edu).
Do NetID passwords ever expire?
Yes, your NetID password expire every 6 months. You will need to change the password before it expires since you cannot access online resources using an expired NetID password. You can change your password at http://www.uta.edu/changepassword.
I have my default password but it does not work
There can be several reasons for that:

You have not activated your account yet. Please activate your account on NetID Self Service page.

You have activated your NetID account and have changed your password from the default to something else. You can select a new password at http://www.uta.edu/changepassword.
What are the NetID password requirements or restrictions?
You cannot access any resources unless you have activated your account at http://www.uta.edu/selfservice and have chosen a personalized password.

Expiration Date: 6 months

History: 5 passwords

Length: Between 8 and 20 characters

Complexity: 3 of 4 character classes (lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers and special characters)

Your password should NOT contain blanks or spaces.

Your password should NOT contain any common proper nouns of four letters or longer that would be found in a standard dictionary.

Your password should NOT contain a simple string of numbers and letters (or letters and numbers) such as abc123, abcd1234, acs123, or oit123, etc.

Your password should NOT contain your username.

Your password should NOT contain your first or last name.

Your password should NOT contain your birthday in any form.

Your password should NOT contain your Social Security Number.
