How do I know if I am subscribed to WSUS?

  1. Right-click on My Computer icon on your Desktop

  2. Choose Properties

  3. Click on Automatic Updates tab and System Properties window will open.  If the options are grayed out then you are subscribed to WSUS.

If the options are not grayed out and you are not subscribed to WSUS, click on WSUS - Subscribe and choose Run if prompted to save.

How do I know if the subscription was successful after clicking on the WSUS-Subscribe link?

If you subscribed successfully Desktop Support WSUS Utility Install Setup box will appear on your screen.  If unsure, you can always click on the subscription link to subscribe again.

If I see "Updates are ready for your computer. Click here to install these updates" icon, should I click on it?

If you wait until 12pm the updates will be installed automatically.  You can also click on the icon to start a manual installation.  If you are doing a manual installation choose Express Install when prompted.  Restart the computer when prompted to do so.  During the installation you may see the information box letting you know the updates are being installed.

What happens if I choose not to restart my machine?

If you choose not to restart you will be reminded every 24 hours that updates are ready to be installed.  You will also get prompted during logoff process to Install updates and shut down.  We recommend that you select that option in order for your computer to be updated and patched properly.
