Recipients of Encrypted E-mail

University of Texas - Arlington (UT Arlington) has implemented e-mail encryption to protect the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive information including protected health or personal identity information that is contained in email messages and attachments sent over the Internet.

Short training video is available at UT Arlington's Help Desk You Tube Page

  1. Familiarize yourself with the recipient FAQ's
  2. When you received a E-mail encryption you will notice the term encrypt in the subject line. You will also notice an attachment titled "UTA_encrypted_Doc.html"
  3. Open the attachment labeled UTA_encrypted_Doc.html.
  4. You will be prompted to open(view) the files or save (download) it to your computer. For best results, save (download) the file first, then open it in a web browser.
  5. A Cisco Registered Envelope Service window will open in your Internet browser.
  6. UT Arlington faculty/staff (skip to step 9) do not need to register if they received the e-mail at their UT Arlington email address. They will need to use their UT Arlington email address and password to open the e-mail.
  7. First Time users who are not affiliated with UT Arlington will need to register their e-mail address before they can open the secure email.
    1. Click the Register button to continue to the next step needed to open this message.
Security Note: For your security, please verify the link below matches the link in the address bar of your browser window. There will be added characters to the end of this URL which are unique to you.
    2. Personal Email Address and Provide your Password.
    3. Then click Register.
    4. You will receive a confirmation screen informing you that your account was successfully created. This message indicates that you are now ready to log in and check your messages.
    5. Return to the location where you saved the attachment. Double click the attachment to open the content of the e-mail.
    6. A Cisco Registered Envelope Service window will open. Provide the password you created during the registration process.
    7. Cisco E-mail encryption help can be found at - https://res.cisco.com/websafe/help?topic=RegEnvelope
  8. If you need help remembering your password, use the Forgot Password link to reset it.
  9. Once logged in you will see your encrypted e-mail message. You may also reply back to the sender, if necessary. See Recipients FAQ's for more help.
