Definition of Terms
Description:
For our purposes, we are defining the following terms for our use.

Personal: A device directly connected to a single computer. That computer may be used by more than one user.

Small Work Group: A small group involves two to four users connected by a network.

Medium Work Group: A medium workgroup is defined as 5 to 9 users connected by a network.

Large Work Group: A large workgroup is defined as 10 or more users connected by a network.

Network: The UT Arlington campus Ethernet network.

Scanning: The ability of the device to convert a hard copy image to an electronic format in PDF, TIF, and JPG formats.

Copy: Duplicate an original directly to print.

FAX: The ability for the device to send a standard facsimile over a standard phone line.

Digital Sender: Converts documents to standard format such as PDF for sending either to e-mail or directly to a client Desktop. It is our preference to use PDF and e-mail. Units which use server resources will not be considered.

Supported Operating Systems: MacOS: OSX; Windows: XP Professional; Unix: Linux and Sun.

Multifunction Printer (MFP): A printer that prints, copies, and may digital send, scan, and or fax.

PostScript: Cross-Platform printer language developed by Adobe Systems.
