Disposal of Hard Disk Drives and other Media
Description:
If a computer UT Arlington owned Mac or PC is in the process of being disposed/sent to surplus, all electronic media (hard disk drive, floppy disk, or magnetic tape) must be sanitized to prevent the inadvertent disclosure of protected and/or confidential information.
Available To:
- Faculty (currently appointed) and Staff
- Departments and Offices at UT Arlington
How to Get:

Individual Departments should be using Symantec GDisk to erase any hard disk drives or floppy diskettes prior to sending them to Surplus for redistribution/disposal on and off campus.

UT Arlington Office of Information Technology (OIT) will use Symantec GDisk to format any hard disk drives or floppy diskettes being sent to surplus. If GDisk will not run on a Mac then the hard disk drive should be removed from the Mac and placed in a PC so that it may be formatted with GDisk.

Non-Functional hard disk drives - use degaussing machine to permanently erase and render it unusable

Functional hard disk drives - use Symantec GDisk to erase prior to redistribution/disposal on and off campus
