A mobile device is a supplemental device to a computer. They are frequently capable of synchronizing data between the device itself and the host computer. When properly configured, one can receive e-mail, create and view calendar appointments, personal contacts and certain documents. Such devices that incorporate cell phone technology are referred to popularly as "smartphones."
OIT will provide minimal support for certain mobile devices. Currently only Apple iPhone and select mobile devices running Windows Mobile operating systems are eligible for support. When support is requested, OIT Client Services will attempt to answer questions about wireless or e-mail setup. Clients requiring assistance with their mobile devices should contact the OIT Helpdesk. The Helpdesk staff will provide 15-20 minutes of limited support . As a general rule, when a technical problem requires more than 20 minutes to resolve, the client will be directed to on-line resources such as the user's manual for their specific device, to frequently-asked questions pages or to the client's service provider, if applicable.
