Find my iPhone
Description:
How to configure an iPad to use Find My iPhone using a free AppleID on iOS 4.2 or later.
Also see Apple's site for a video of using the MobileMe feature of Find My iPad.
The instructions for iPhone and iPod Touch is very similar to the iPad.
How to Get:
Your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch will need to be running version 4.2 of the iOS software before proceeding. Upgrade instructions are available on Apple's website.
How to Use:
Enabling Find My iPhone

From the Home Screen, find and open the App Store.

Search for Find My iPhone.

Install the Find My iPhone app by Apple.

From the Home Screen, find and open Settings.

Tap Mail, Contacts, and Calendars.
Note: If you are a paid member of MobileMe and have already configured your email account, select your account from the list and skip to step 10.

Tap MobileMe from the service list.

Enter the same login information you use to purchase content via iTunes and App Store. This will give you access to the free Find My iPhone service.

You may need to agree to the Terms of Service for MobileMe, even if you are a free Find My iPhone user.

Tap Agree to confirm again.

Turn Find My iPhone On.

Find My iPhone requires collecting your location information from the device at regular intervals. Tap Allow to confirm.
Demonstration

On a Desktop or Laptop Computer, open https://me.com/find/
or
On an iPhone or iPad, open the Find My iPhone app from the Home Screen.

Log in using the same account that you used to enable Find My iPhone in the previous section.

Our device is found!
From here we can display a message, play a sound, or erase the device remotely. If the device wasn't found on the map, the next time it connects to a network (wifi or cellular if your device has 3G) your message will be displayed or the erase command will execute. You will recieve emails from the MobileMe service when the device has displayed your message or been erased.
