Known Issues:
Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" is no longer for sale. Users of this Mac OS X version on Intel Macintosh computers can upgrade to version 10.6 "Snow Leopard" but MUST PURCHASE the "Mac Box Set" in order to be properly licensed for that version. The "Upgrade" disc for 10.6 "Snow Leopard" is ONLY for computers that already have Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" licensed for that one machine. The 5-pack Family Pack option is also not permitted for commercial/enterprise users.

Change in Daylight Saving Time for 2007. For your computer to display the correct time during the Daylight Saving Time period, you will need to install some updates. First if you are running 10.4.0 to 10.4.7, you will need to install the 10.4.8 PPC combo update. Once you have installed 10.4.8 you will need to install the Daylight Saving Time Update v.1.0 and Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 5 v.5.0. These updates can also be downloaded and installed by running System Preferences:Software Update.
The Daylight Saving Time change will also effect MS Office X and 2004. The patch for MS Office 2004 is within the MS Office 2004 11.3.3 update. The patch can also be found on Desktop Support's Mac Server Uranus or by using the MacHD/Applications/Microsoft AutoUpdate application. There is no patch for MS Office X. It is recommended that you upgrade to MS Office 2004 if your computer meets OIT requirements for MS Office 2004.
IMPORTANT: There is an issue between Mail in 10.4.2 and the Exchange server. OIT currently recommends that users avoid the 10.4.2 upgrade. If you have already upgraded, do not use Mail. More specifically, this issue appears to center around using the IMAP or Exchange protocol in this application. When in use, the Mail client causes an increase in processor cycles on the server, causing Exchange to slow down considerably. Other errors are produced on the server side. E-mail access via IMAP and the Exchange protocol has been disabled. Please use Outlook Web Access (OWA) or Entourage 2004 to access UTA e-mail.
IMPORTANT: There are some issues with Outlook 2001 for Mac running in Mac OS X 10.0.x and 10.1.x. If your personal folder is not mounted prior to opening Outlook 2001, the application will not be able to find .pab and .PST files located on the Network folder. Because Outlook is the chosen method of official communications for UT Arlington, this is an important consideration before migrating over to Mac OS X. This problem does not occur with Mac OS X v.10.2.2 or higher.
IMPORTANT: Make sure your computer's firmware is up to date before installing/upgrading any version of Mac OS X. This can be done by using Mac OS 9's Software Update Control Panel or Mac OS X's System Preferences Software Update feature.
IMPORTANT: Mac OS X 10.4.x does not come with an Mac OS 9 CD. IMPORTANT: Soon after first boot up after installing or upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4, the responsiveness maybe slow due to the indexing being done for the Spotlight feature. Once the indexing is done normal responsiveness should occur.
IMPORTANT: The correct version of Mac OS 9 must be installed in order for the classic environment to work correctly in Mac OS X. For the classic environment to work correctly may involve updating either Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X.
IMPORTANT: There several compatibility issues with Mac OS X 10.4.0: Norton Antivirus v.8 and v.9 , Virtual PC v.6.1 and v.7, and DiskWarrior.
IMPORTANT: If you receive "the disc could not be used because the disc drive is not supported. (Error code 0x80020025)" error message when inserting a blank CD-R or DVD-R, the solution is to either perform a PRAM ZAP or Force Quit the Finder. To perform a PRAM ZAP, reboot the computer and hold down the apple+option+p+r keys until the computer does another reboot. To do a Finder Force Quit, click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner and select Force Quit and then select Finder and click the Relaunch button.
IMPORTANT: There is an issue between Mail in 10.4.2 and the Exchange server. It is recommended that you install the latest updates.
Finder and all other applications will display the wrong date due to a problem with the system battery. For more information visit Macintosh System Battery troubleshooting page.
