We rebuild our computers on a regular schedule and have to keep going to OIT to borrow the CD’s. Would it be possible for us to keep one copy of the CDs here at our department location?
Can I load a copy of AutoCAD on my laptop and take it to a meeting/conference outside of the United States?
We have people from companies that do business with the University use our computers. Can we install AutoCAD on computers for them to use?
No, not at this time due to our ACES contract which has the following restrictions that limit our ability to make and give copies of the CD’s to departments.
- The University has to appoint an administrator to record and control the distribution of the Software.
- The administrator must keep records of how many copies of the various packages are installed and where the computers that the software is installed on are located.
- The University can make only one copy of the media for archival purposes. Five sets are provided to the University to facilitate installation. One copy is treated as an archival set to use to make replacement CD’s in case a set gets damaged or lost, one set resides in Lab Support for them to maintain OIT lab installation and the other three sets are checked out to departments for short periods of time to do installation. The three checkout sets are seldom in the OIT office for very long because departments are constantly reloading or installing the Software.
- Additional copies of the media can be purchased, but each title will cost between $75.00 to $100.00 each and would not be included in any upgrades. This means that AutoCAd, Buildings, Survey , etc. would be treated as a separate title and a complete set would cost around $800.00 and when a new version came out the same amount would have to be spent to upgrade the additional copy.
Our contract does not permit the use of the Software outside the country where it was purchased.
Our contract only allows usage of the Software by Faculty, Staff and Students of the University who are taking classes, doing research or facility related work.
