Function: McAfee Agent is the client-side component providing secure communication between ePolicy Orchestrator and managed products. It also serves as an updater for managed and unmanged McAfee products. The installation of McAfee agent will result in the installation of the McAfee antivirus software product called VirusScan Enterprise for Linux (it does not have a GUI interface).

Known Issues: Ubuntu 12.04 has an issue with VirusScan Enterprise for Linux 1.9 in which the On-Access Scanning is not active. The issue is limited to installations of Ubuntu 12 from the ubuntu-12.04.2 ISO's.  The issue does not appear with OS installations from either the ubuntu-12.04 or ubuntu-12.04.1 ISO's.

Installation:

This software is for only UTA owned computers with the Linux OS

Uninstall any currently installed Anti-virus software or older versions of McAfee Agent

Connect your computer to the UTA network

Download the Linux-McAfee-Agent zip file from the Downloads web page

Double click on the Linux-McAfee-Agent zip file to unzip/extract the zipped file which will produce three files: install.sh, installdeb.sh, and installrpm.sh

Determine which of the installers is best for your version of Linux

- installrpm.sh for Red Hat Linux Enterprise, Oracle Linux, Scientific Linux, CentOS Linux,  Fedora Core Linux, Open SuSE, SuSE Linux Enterprise, SuSE Enterprise

- installdeb.sh for Debian, Ubuntu

For the following instruction steps <path of parent folder> should be the absolute path to the parent folder of either installdeb.sh or installrpm.sh, e.g. /home/useraccountname/Desktop/ if the installer is located at /home/useraccountname/Desktop/installdeb.sh

In the Terminal application, do either a chmod 775 <path of parent folder>/installrpm.sh or chmod 775 <path of parent folder>/installdeb.sh command

If you know the root password, then in the Terminal application, do a su command and enter the root password and then do either <path of parent folder>/installrpm.sh -i or <path of parent folder>/installdeb.sh -i command

If you do not know the root password, but your account is listed in the sudoers file, then in the Terminal application, do either a sudo <path of parent folder>/installrpm.sh -i or sudo <path of parent folder>/installdeb.sh -i command

A few minutes after the McAfee Agent is installed, the McAfee antivirus software product called VirusScan Enterprise for Linux will be automatically installed by the McAfee server

The latest definitions should be installed automatically shortly after VirusScan Enterprise for Linux is installed.
