Installing McAfee on a Mac
- Faculty (currently appointed) and Staff
How to Get:
Download the latest version of the McAfee Client from the downloads page. When you click on the download link, you will be asked to authenticate with your NetID and Password. Enter your credentials and click Log In.
After you have authenticated, if you are using Safari, the file will be automatically sent to your Downloads folder.
Note: If you are using Firefox or almost any other browser you will be asked to open or save file. Select the Open with DiskImageMounter (default option), Click OK, and skip to step 5. Please see the image below.
Click on the Downloads icon on your dock or open the Downloads folder. If you click downloads from the dock, click the McAfee Disc Image file once to open it. If you are opening from the Downloads folder, click twice.
Once you have opened the file that you downloaded your machine will mount the virtual disc image and place an icon on the desktop (shown below). Click the new Icon on the desktop, and in the new folder, click to launch McAfeeSmartInstall.
After you run the program, you will be asked to verify that you want to run the file because it has been downloaded from the web. Please confirm that you want to run the program by clicking the Open button.
Depending on how your machine is configured, the name of the current user (if local admin) will be shown in the name field and you will be asked to input the password for that account, either local admin password or NetID password. Enter your credentials and click OK.
After the installer is underway, you will see the installation progress screen shown below. When the installation is complete, this window will simply disappear. You should then see the McAfee agent icon in the system tray.
The latest definitions should be installed automatically shortly after McAfee Security is fully installed.
