Setting up email with Entourage

Description:

This document is intended for Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. If you have Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, see our instructions for setting up Outlook 2011.

 

Make sure you have the latest updates and patches before your proceed with the setup instructions.

Setting up the first e-mail account

  1. Open MS Entourage.
  2. If you are a first time Entourage user, you may be prompted to acknowledge Entourage as your default e-mail program. If prompted, select Make Default and proceed to step 3.

  3. Select the Start using Entourage without importing anything option and click the Right Arrow Button on the window.

    If you don't see the following window when you start Entourage, skip to Setup or Add Another Account.

  4. Enter your e-mail address and check the option for Exchange Server. Click the Right Arrow Button.

  5. You may see the following error. Click to continue. Click the Right Arrow Button.

  7. Enter the following details and click the Right Arrow Button when done.
    • Your Name: Your Name
    • E-mail address: Your E-mail address UNLESS you have an alias (e-mail is different than NetID). If you have an alias, type the e-mail address as NetID@exchange.uta.edu. Please contact Help Desk if you have any questions (817) 272-2208.

  8. Login with your NetID and password. The domain server is uta.edu

  9. Go through the Verify My Settings process. If you get errors, return to the last settings page with the Left Arrow Button and make corrections. If you continue to get errors, click the Right Arrow Button and click Skip. Verify your settings should be similar to step 6 of Setup or Add Another Account.

  10. Name the Account after your NetID so you can tell your account from other users you may delegate in future. Click Finish.

  11. On the Tools menu, click Accounts. Click Edit.

  12. Click on Advanced tab. Enter the other details as necessary:.
    • Public folders server: <blank>
    • LDAP server: <blank>

Setup an Outlook Profile

  1. Open MS Entourage.
  2. If you are a first time Entourage user, you may be prompted to acknowledge Entourage as your default e-mail program. If prompted, select Make Default and proceed to step 3.

  3. On the Tools menu, click Accounts. If you already have an account configured, click Edit and go to step 6. If you have not configured an account yet, click Exchange and then click New.

  4. If you do not receive the New Account dialog box, go to step 5. If you receive the New Account dialog box, click Assist Me.
  5. Click on Configure account manually.
  6. On the Account Settings tab, use the following settings:
    • Account name: Your NetID
    • Name: Your Name
    • E-mail address: Your E-mail address UNLESS you have an alias (e-mail is different than NetID). If you have an alias, type the e-mail address as NetID@exchange.uta.edu. Please contact Help Desk if you have any questions (817) 272-2208.
    • Account ID: NETID. 
    • Domain: uta.edu
    • Exchange server: owa.uta.edu

  7. Click on Advanced tab. Enter the other details as necessary:.
    • Public folders server: <blank>
    • LDAP server: <blank>

Delete an Account

  1. Open MS Entourage, go to Entourage, and select Account Settings.
  2. Highlight the profile to be deleted and click Delete.

  3. Click on Delete to completely remove the existing profile and confirm the action.

Create a Personal Folder

  1. Open MS Entourage and select the folder where you want to add a personal folder.
  2. Click on File, select New, and choose Subfolder.

  3. An untitled folder should appear under the folder you specified. You can change the name by clicking on the folder name once.

Share a Calendar/Folders

  1. Create a Profile for the mailbox to be shared.
  2. Open MS Entourage, go to Entourage, and select Account Settings.
  3. Highlight the account to which you want add the mailbox and click on Edit.

  5. Click on Delegate under Edit Accounts.
  6. Click Add under My Delegates and add the usernames you wish to delegate mailbox permissions to and clickOK.
  7. Log onto the the profile for the mailbox to be shared.

  9. Select the folder/calendar that you would like to delegate permissions for, go to Edit and select Folder Properties.
  10. Select Permissions and choose Add User.

  11. Enter the name of the user you would like to give permissions to view the folder and click Find. If the search returns several names, select the correct user, and click OK.

  12. Specify the level of permission and OK to complete setup.

View a Shared Mailbox

  1. To view mailbox:
  2. Open MS Entourage, go to Entourage, and select Account Settings.
  3. Highlight the account to which you want to add the additional mailbox and click on Edit.
  4. Click on Delegate under Edit Accounts.

  6. Click Add under Users I am a delegate for and add the name of the mailbox you have been given permissions to.
  7. Click OK.
  8. To view individual folders:
  9. Click File and choose Open Other User's Folder.
  10. Enter the mailbox name in the User field.
  11. Select the Folder Type you are trying to access (Inbox, Calendar, Contacts, etc) and click OK.

Disable Junk E-mail Filter

  1. Go to Tools and select Junk E-Mail Protection.
  2. Select None for the Protection Level and click OK.
