SharePoint at UT Arlington

SharePoint provides a powerful set of tools for information sharing and team collaboration. A SharePoint website can include document libraries, form libraries, photo libraries, calendars, tasks, discussion boards, and surveys. Websites can be easily customized to fit your specific requirements.  SharePoint contains a number of different features and solutions, which are available to all UTA employees.

Log in to the UTA SharePoint Home Page (NetID and password required; if using Windows XP or Vista, type “uta\” + NetID as the login name).  A VPN connection is no longer required when accessing SharePoint from off campus.

If your department has not deployed a ShrePoint site and you would like to get started email us at sharepoint@uta.edu.

Training and information Resources

Visit the SharePoint Training site for information, documentation, and links to recommended training videos on Lynda.com.  Login to Lynda with your NetID and password prior to using the recommended video links.

The SharePoint User Group site provides a forum for sharing ideas and methods.  It also houses the SharePoint Knowledge Blog which allows users across campus to post solutions to SharePoint problems they have encountered.  The SharePoint User Group meets periodically and invites Site Owners to present instructions for creating unique content that they have used on their own sites.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a limit to the amount of files I can store on SharePoint?
Currently, there is no limit to the amount of files that can be stored on SharePoint.

Are there any types of files that can't be stored on SharePoint?
SharePoint supports the storage of most common file types; however, certain potentially harmful files, such as .exe's, are not supported. Any Microsoft Office application file offers the ability to edit within the browser as well as opening the application.

When should I use SharePoint rather than blog.uta.edu or wiki.uta.edu?
First identify the audience and contributors for the wiki or blog. If the audience includes students or external individuals, SharePoint will not be the suitable solution for now.

Is SharePoint a replacement for our departmental website?
Because SharePoint is only available to a limited audience, it is not a replacement for your college, school, or department website.

Are K drives going away?
The long term plan is for SharePoint to be our new “K:” drive. With SharePoint you will have more storage space than the present K: drive, as well as all of the robust features such as lists, discussion boards, and surveys.
