OIT is in the process of testing Windows 8 on supported hardware. If client hardware is anything other than a Dell Optiplex or Dell Latitude, client should contact your hardware vendor to ensure that there are Windows 8 drivers for your machine. Clients should retain all copies of their installation media (CD/DVD) for their machine. If client is running any specialized software for mission critical UTA business, then you should talk to your software vendor to verify that the software is compatible with Windows 8 before you consider an upgrade or purchase of a new machine with Windows 8 installed.
There is no rush to upgrade to Windows 8 since Microsoft intends to continue support of Windows 7 until 2015. In addition, we do not recommend that you upgrade to Windows 8 unless your machine meets our minimum hardware specifications.
The Cisco VPN client will not permit authentication under Windows 8. A solution is currently being researched to rectify this. Faculty and staff who rely on VPN for remote access or after-hours work are advised not to upgrade to Windows 8 until VPN access has been tested and is confirmed to be functioning normally by OIT technicians.
How to Get:
At this time, OIT is conducting additional research into Windows 8 interoperability with other systems. There is no target date for full OIT support of Windows 8, and deployment to UTA assets is currently not permitted. This page will be updated to reflect changes to this policy.
UTA students, faculty and staff may purchase Windows 8 from the UTA Bookstore. Users are entitled to purchase one copy of Windows 8-32 bit OS and one copy of Windows 8-64 bit OS. These copies may not be installed on UTA assets and are intended solely for personal home use. Please call (817) 272-2785 for additional information.

Support: UTA students, faculty and staff may receive minimal assistance with personally owned Windows 8 machines by visiting the OIT Help Desk on the 1st floor of the Central Library or by calling (817) 272-2208. Support offerings will be expanded after Windows 8 achieves full adoption by OIT.
