Description:
Secure Shell or "ssh" is the program used for accessing remote UNIX and Linux terminals over any network. Off-campus network connections do NOT need to first installl or connect to to VPN.

How to Use:

After downloading and installingSSH Secure Shell for Workstations 3.2.9, you should have 2 icons on your Desktop. The SSH Secure Shell Client (equivalent to Telnet) and the SSH Secure File Transfer Client (equivalent to FTP). Double-click the SSH Secure Shell Client icon.

From the main SSH Secure Shell window, click on Quick Connect.

For Host Name: enter the name of the UNIX server you wish to connect to. In this example, we are using omega.uta.edu. For User Name: enter your UNIX username for the same server you entered as Host. Port Number: should be 22. Set Authentication Method: to Password and then click Connect.

Upon connecting you should receive a "Message from the server". Click OK.

You should now connected to the UNIX server you specified as Host. To end your session, click on the Disconnect icon.

You will be asked to confirm disconnect. Click OK to disconnect from the server.
