Database Backup
Applicable to servers maintained by the EOS Systems group:
EOS runs a system program to shut down all the services running on servers prior to backup. Backups take place between 12 midnight and early morning. The servers and their services are restarted after the backup has been completed. The two two different backup systems are run weekly:
- The services are shut down after midnight Monday through Friday for a differential backup (restoration of lost files is easier from this backup. It takes longer to do the full backup). A differential backup backs up any updates since the last full backup. The services are restarted after the backup.
- On Saturday, services are shutdown after midnight for an incremental backup. Incremental backs up updates since the last backup. The services are again restarted on completion. (This takes less time to back up but to restore it - it might take several backups to restore lost data).
Please contact EOS, Information Technology on the backup status of your server(s) and for more information.
