Data and Server Backup
Policy UTS165 states that all UT Arlington Data, including Data associated with research, must be backed up in accordance with risk management decisions implemented by the Data Owner (person responsible for the data). All Data Owners shall adopt a backup and recovery plan commensurate with the risk and value of the computer system and Data. The plan must have procedures for the following:
-
Recovering Data and applications in the case of events such as natural disasters, system disk drive failures, espionage, data entry errors, human error, or system operations errors.
-
Assigning operational responsibility for backup of all servers connected to the applicable network.
-
Scheduling Data backups and establishing requirements for off site storage.
-
Securing onsite / offsite storage and media in transit.
-
Testing backup and recovery procedures.
Examples of data backup are, saving a copy of any mission critical data to a network drive or to an account on MavSpace.
For departments who have servers it is highly encouraged that their servers be housed at the Arlington Data Center (ArDC). Here servers are monitored twenty four hours, seven days a week, are in a secure location, backed up regularly and kept on an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). For more information on how to arrange for your server to be hosted at the ArDC please email: ardc@uta.edu.
