Social Engineering
Criminals sometimes pretend to be someone they are not in order to gain access to areas that would otherwise be off limits to unauthorized personnel. These areas may include staff or faculty offices, server closets, computers and storage areas containing sensitive data.
To help prevent Social Engineering you should be more aware of the people you come into contact with and how secure you have made your environment. When leaving your computer always password protect it so that others cannot gain access. Close and lock any doors that may help prevent physical access to sensitive data. When someone requests access to a computer or area where there is sensitive data stored always check their identity with your supervisor. Any unusual activity should be reported immediately to the UT Arlington Police x3381.
