Teaching/Learning Advisory Committee (TLAC)
Purpose
Strategic alignment and input towards partnered decision-making on recommendations related to usage of technology to support needs of teaching and learning. The Teaching/Learning Advisory Committee (TLAC) looks at how IT can support learning and teaching at UT Arlington. This committee discusses learning models including hybrid and distance delivery and other innovative approaches. They consider how instructors can use technology to make teaching more effective for teachers and learners, including in the classroom, labs and on the web. TLAC creates initiatives that address needed improvements and additions to the technologies available to instructors and students in the learning environment.Meets: Monthly
Members
Members are appointed for two years of service, with half being appointed each year
Appointed- Provost Representative (Chair)
- Five representatives from school/colleges, chosen by Dean’s Council
- Two faculty representatives (Senate, Academy of Distinguished Teachers)
- Distance Education management representative
- Library management representative
- AIAC representative
- ESAC representative
- Chairs of Appropriate Communities of Practice
- OIT Director of Client Services
Roles
- Gather input from Communities of Practice and general academic community on projects that promote academic excellence through the utilization of information technology
- If a Community of Practice does not exist on a particular technology of interest for the TLAC, create a project-specific sub-committee to research. Examples include innovative technologies that have interest and promise.
- Based on requests for IT services, the TLAC will prioritize requests and make a recommendation to the ITGC based on satisfaction of university strategic missions and goals related to teaching and learning.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a Committee Charter
- Each Advisory Committee chair will submit a report about its activities and issues to the ITGC
- Identify issues related to pedagogy, learning outcomes, and instructor support associated with instructional technology
- Investigate strategies for incorporating new learning models, including hybrid and distance delivery, and innovative instructional approaches
- Review and make recommendations regarding service delivery levels and priorities from media services and instructional computing, including selection of course management systems and related software
- Recommend standards, policies, and resource requirements for instructional space design, including classrooms and labs, as they relate to overall instructional goals and strategies
- Recommend standards and policies for computing and media equipment as they relate to overall instructional goals and strategies
- Filter through requests and collect additional information as necessary to weigh the value and importance to UT Arlington
- Prioritize most valuable requests based on satisfaction of university strategic goals related to teaching and learning and make recommendations to the IT Governance Committee
Authority
- Request input from academic community on ideas where IT can support learning and teaching at UT Arlington
- Decline requests that have less value to the university
- Prioritize and recommend valuable requests to ITGC
Management of Disputes
If topics should arise that cannot be resolved within the TLAC organization, the topic will be elevated to the ITGC who will work towards resolution.
