Campus Facility Access Change

Issue of New Five-Digit PIN

Door Access

Selected campus classrooms, labs, studios, offices, and residence hall rooms require individuals to swipe an ID card and enter a 5 digit PIN to gain access to the facility. If you require access to any campus location that requires entry of a 5 digit PIN, then it is critical that you be aware of the following important changes. Your continued ability to access these facilities requires your understanding and cooperation with the initiative described below.

  1. Currently the default value of the 5 digit PIN used by campus cardholders to access selected facilities is either the last five digits of the Social Security Number or the last five digits of the new UT Arlington ID.
  2. To enhance security and further remove use of the social security number from campus operations, a new randomly-generated 5 digit PIN will be assigned to each cardholder effective July 16, 2007.
  3. Only cardholders who use PIN activated locks will be required to know their PIN.
  4. Cardholders may view their new PIN by logging onto https://webapps.uta.edu/oit/selfservice/ and selecting "View your PIN Number and other account information."
  5. Cardholders should be careful to maintain the security of their PIN.
  6. PIN activated locks will be reprogrammed starting on July 24, 2007.
  7. With over 1,100 PIN activated locks on campus, reprogramming all the locks may take weeks.
  8. Cardholders must continue to use their old PIN until the new PIN is programmed into the lock.
  9. Instructions on using your PIN for PIN Activated Locks are noted below:

Instructions on using your PIN for PIN Activated Locks

How to activate the lock:

  1. Swipe card.
  2. Wait for green and red flashing lights.
  3. If no lights appear, press any key and swipe card again.

  5. You may need to use your former PIN until your new PIN has been programmed into the lock.

What to do if the lock will not activate after repeated attempts:

  1. Contact the departmental administrative staff.
    1. The departmental administrative staff is typically available on-site and can unlock the door for you.
    2. The departmental administrative staff can verify that you are approved for access.
    3. The departmental administrative staff is authorized to request access privileges through Mav Express and can further review your situation.
  2. If the departmental administrative staff is not available, Contact Mav Express at 817-272-2645.
  3. If the Mav Express Office is closed, Contact UTA Police at 817-272-3003.
