We have gotten many student, faculty, and staff requests for it. We've turned to this technology to meet the needs of our students who need PPP access to UT Arlington modems for use of web-based library databases, web-based e-mail, web-based course work and research, etc.

Miscellaneous Questions

Question: Why am I being disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity?

Because the remote access server has an idle time set to close the connection after 15 minutes of inactivity. This safeguards all users from leaving their accounts connected and accidentally tying up a line. This feature has always been set on our modems and cannot be changed for individual users.

Question: Why am I being disconnected after 5 hours of being connected to the Internet?

Each user is limited to 5 hour sessions in order to allow all users equal access to the modems. The disconnected user can dial right back in and connect again for another session, if there are unused ports available.
